Become a Leader

Help us get 200 young people off a waiting list and into Scouting!

Scouting goes far beyond being a progressive programme of activities designed to help the young people holistically. It provides a foundation for great values to live by: Helpfulness, friendship, cooperation, respect for self and others, understanding and tolerance, integrity based on loyalty, honesty and trust, leadership, resourcefulness and courage in the face of difficulties.

What could be more important to nurturing the kind of society we all want to live in?

This is why it matters profoundly and why we need even more support from volunteers, donors, employers and decision-makers like you. With just a little of your resources – time, talent, money, enthusiasm and good will – we can make a huge difference.

We welcome women and men of all ages, abilities, interests and backgrounds to support Scouting in East Somerset District. There is no need to have been involved in Scouting or Guiding before; all that is required is a willingness to give some of your time and a have a positive attitude!

It’s a great way to make friends as our adult members have a lively social and activity programme and many people find that the free Leader, adult and Instructor training they receive helps in both their professional and personal lives.

It’s not all outdoor adventure for our adult volunteer; they help across a range of subjects from drama, IT, the arts, cooking, first aid, wood crafts and through providing much needed strategic organisational support on logistics, training provision, mentoring, administration, financial management, marketing, recruitment, fundraising and as a charity trustee. The list of opportunities is almost endless.

In East Somerset District we rely on over 500 volunteers like you. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and the training we offer is tailored to each individual. You can train at your own pace and we will support and empower you to lead others. The volunteering opportunities that we offer are flexible so they fit with your individual circumstances.
